لَقَدindeed أَصبَحَتhas become نَفسيmy soul تَتوقُlongs إِلىfor مِصرِEgypt
لَقَد أَصبَحَت نَفسي تَتوقُ إِلى مِصرِ
وَمِنand on دونِهاthis side of it أَرضُa land of المَهامَهvast deserts وَالقَفرِand barren wilderness
وَمِن دونِها أَرضُ المَهامَه وَالقَفرِ
Indeed, my soul has come to yearn for Egypt,
Indeed, my soul has come to long for Egypt,
though between me and her lie vast deserts and wasteland.
And between me and it lies a land of vast deserts and barren wilderness.
فَوَاللَهِso, by God لاnot أَدريI know أَلِلفَوزِwhether for success وَالغِنىand wealth
فَوَاللَهِ لا أَدري أَلِلفَوزِ وَالغِنى
أُساقُI am driven إِلَيهاtoward it أَمor أُساقُI am driven إِلىto القَبرِthe grave
أُساقُ إِلَيها أَم أُساقُ إِلى القَبرِ
By God, I do not know whether it is to triumph and prosperity
So, by God, I know not whether for success and wealth
that I am being led—or whether I am being led to the grave.
I am driven toward it, or driven to the grave.
