A door will be opened when a door is shut.

Yes, and difficult matters will grow easy.

And circumstances will open up after

the spacious paths within them have narrowed.

With worry come two reliefs; be gentle with yourself.

For neither worry nor dejection is of any use.

For how often you felt overwhelmed by what you dreaded,

yet none of it proved worth fearing.

And how often you feared hail from a cloud,

yet you were spared, and the cloud cleared away from you.

And provision came to you without your seeking it,

nor did pursuing it rob the eye of sleep.

And one far from his family, after

a towering surge of waves had risen over him.

If people shut themselves away from a supplicant,

there is no veil before one who asks my Lord.

He bestows bounty upon whoever hopes in Him,

and whoever hopes in Him is answered at all times.

So never grieve over what has passed you by,

while you have acceptance of it and hope of divine reward.

For there is no escaping the fulfillment of what is inscribed in

your book: through it you are favored or afflicted.

Who, then, can stand in the way of what is in the book,

and who can bring forth what the book has rejected?

If you do not abandon an adornment

that makes a man suspect when he appears with it,

you will fall into places where you meet your ruin,

and unerring arrows will plunge toward you.

Understand this age of yours, and be moderate,

for this age of yours is torment.

And lessen reproach, for in it there is no one

who reproaches when reproach is deserved.

All people have passed away and perished, except

wretches whom even dogs surpass in honor.

Their rabble meets you with a cheerful face,

and the greeting of a gentle one among them is abuse.

So do good; what a noble man finds commendable

is protection for them from themselves, and avoidance.

     وَإِلاَّ فَذَاكَ فِيْمَا الخَطَا وَالصَّوابُ

    For if God makes him independent of them, he flees;

otherwise, that is where error and right judgment lie.

So leave what you desire, for desire

leads souls toward what is blameworthy.

And weigh your words before speaking,

for every utterance has a reply.

For many a word pains the heart,

though it contains jesting that is found pleasing.
