قَلبيmy heart بِرَحمَتِكَthrough Your mercy اللَهُمَّO God ذوpossessing أُنُسِsolace
قَلبي بِرَحمَتِكَ اللَهُمَّ ذو أُنُسِ
فيin السِرِّsecrecy وَالجَهرِand openness وَالإِصباحِand daybreak وَالغَلَسِand predawn darkness
في السِرِّ وَالجَهرِ وَالإِصباحِ وَالغَلَسِ
My heart, through Your mercy, O God, finds solace,
My heart finds intimacy with You, O Allah,
in secret and in public, at daybreak and in the predawn darkness.
In secret and openly, at dawn and dusk.
ماتَقَلَّبتُI have never stirred مِنfrom نَوميmy sleep وَفيand in سِنَتيmy drowsiness
ماتَقَلَّبتُ مِن نَومي وَفي سِنَتي
إِلّاexcept وَذِكرُكَand Your remembrance بَينَbetween النَفسِthe soul وَالنَفَسِand the breath
إِلّا وَذِكرُكَ بَينَ النَفسِ وَالنَفَسِ
Never have I stirred from my sleep or in my drowsiness,
I turn in my sleep and with every breath
without Your remembrance between my soul and my breath.
Your remembrance is between my soul and my soul.
لَقَدindeed مَنَنتَYou bestowed favor عَلىupon قَلبيmy heart بِمَعرِفَةٍwith knowledge
لَقَد مَنَنتَ عَلى قَلبي بِمَعرِفَةٍ
بِأَنَّكَthat You are اللَهُGod ذوpossessor of الآلاءِblessings وَالقُدسِand holiness
بِأَنَّكَ اللَهُ ذو الآلاءِ وَالقُدسِ
You have indeed graced my heart with knowledge
You have blessed my heart with knowing
that You are God, the possessor of blessings and holiness.
That You are Allah, Lord of bounty and holiness.
وَقَدand indeed أَتَيتُI have committed ذُنوباًsins أَنتَYou تَعلَمُهاknow them
وَقَد أَتَيتُ ذُنوباً أَنتَ تَعلَمُها
وَلَمand did not تَكُنYou were فاضِحيone who exposes me فيهاfor them بِفِعلِfor the deed of مَسيan evildoer
وَلَم تَكُن فاضِحي فيها بِفِعلِ مَسي
And I have committed sins that You know,
I came with sins You know full well,
yet You did not disgrace me for those evil deeds.
Yet You did not disgrace me for what I did in error.
فَاِمنُنso bestow favor عَلَيَّupon me بِذِكرِwith remembrance of الصالِحينَthe righteous وَلاand do not
فَاِمنُن عَلَيَّ بِذِكرِ الصالِحينَ وَلا
تَجعَلcause عَلَيَّupon me إِذاًthen فيin الدينِthe faith مِنany لَبَسِconfusion
تَجعَل عَلَيَّ إِذاً في الدينِ مِن لَبَسِ
So favor me with remembrance of the righteous, and do not
So grace me with remembering the righteous,
cause me, then, any confusion in the faith.
And do not make me, in religion, one of confusion.
وَكُنand be مَعيwith me طولَthroughout دُنيايَmy worldly life وَآخِرَتيand my hereafter
وَكُن مَعي طولَ دُنيايَ وَآخِرَتي
وَيَومَand on the day of حَشريmy gathering بِماthrough what أَنزَلتَYou revealed فيin عَبَسِ‘Abasa (‘He Frowned’)
وَيَومَ حَشري بِما أَنزَلتَ في عَبَسِ
And be with me throughout my worldly life and my hereafter,
Be with me all my life and afterlife
and on the day I am gathered, through what You revealed in ‘Abasa.
And on the Day I am resurrected by what You sent down at the frown.
