إِنif كُنتَyou are تَغدوyou go forth فيin الذُنوبِsins جَليداًbold
إِن كُنتَ تَغدو في الذُنوبِ جَليداً
وَتَخافُand you fear فيon يَومِthe day المَعادِthe Return وَعيداthreatened punishment
وَتَخافُ في يَومِ المَعادِ وَعيدا
If you go forth boldly in sin,
If you go astray, frozen in sins,
and fear threatened punishment on the Day of Return,
And fear the day of reckoning and punishment,
فَلَقَدthen surely أَتاكَhas come to you مِنَfrom المُهَيمِنِthe Guardian عَفوُهُHis pardon
فَلَقَد أَتاكَ مِنَ المُهَيمِنِ عَفوُهُ
وَأَفاضَand He poured forth مِنof نِعَمٍblessings عَلَيكَupon you مَزيداmore
وَأَفاضَ مِن نِعَمٍ عَلَيكَ مَزيدا
then the Guardian's pardon has surely come to you,
Then forgiveness has come to you from the Guardian,
and He has poured still more blessings upon you.
And abundant bounty has been bestowed upon you.
لاdo not تَيأَسَنَّever despair مِنof لُطفِtender care رَبِّكَyour Lord فيwithin الحَشاthe womb
لا تَيأَسَنَّ مِن لُطفِ رَبِّكَ في الحَشا
فيin بَطنِthe belly أُمِّكَyour mother مُضغَةًa morsel of flesh وَوَليداand a newborn
في بَطنِ أُمِّكَ مُضغَةً وَوَليدا
Never despair of your Lord's tender care within the womb,
Do not despair of your Lord's kindness in the womb,
in your mother's belly, as a morsel of flesh and a newborn.
A fetus, an infant in your mother's belly.
لَوif شاءَHe willed أَنthat تَصلىyou burn in جَهَنَّمَHell خالِداًremaining forever
لَو شاءَ أَن تَصلى جَهَنَّمَ خالِداً
ماnot كانَHe would have أَلهَمَinspired قَلبَكَyour heart التَوحيداaffirming God's oneness
ما كانَ أَلهَمَ قَلبَكَ التَوحيدا
Had He willed that you burn in Hell forever,
If He had willed you to pray in Hell forever,
He would not have inspired your heart to affirm His oneness.
He would not have inspired your heart with oneness.
