لاno خَيرَgood فيin حَشوِpadding الكَلاspeech (word continues)
مِ(completes 'speech') إِذاwhen اِهتَدَيتَyou have found your way إِلىto عُيونِهِits choicest parts
There is no good in padding speech
No good in prating idly, if
when you have found its choicest parts.
You would be led unto the springs.
وَالصَمتُand silence أَجمَلُmore becoming بِالفَتىto the young man
مِنthan مَنطِقٍspeech فيat غَيرِother than حينِهِits proper time
And silence is more becoming to a young man
And silence for the youth's more fair
than speech at the wrong time.
Than speech, if not in season.
وَعَلىand upon الفَتىthe young man لِطِباعِهِof his nature

And upon a young man, reflecting his nature,
And on the youth's brow signs appear
a mark appears upon his brow.
To show his nature and his mien.
