Why did you not stop at the sandy flats of Batan?
Have you stopped at the traces of encampment from date palms,
Yet why should an old man linger among the traces of deserted camps?
And stopping of an old man is not despicable.

If you ask me about my people, you ask a man,
At the summit of glory, from the tribes of Dhu Yaman.
At the peak of glory from the living people of Yemen.

And the Azd—the Azd of Oman—the noblest when
And Al-Azd, the generous Azd of Oman, when
Their glorious deeds in bygone times are counted.
Their glories are counted in past ages.

Their generosity towards me is evident, so their homes

I have two dwellings: in Lahj, a dwelling in the midst
I have two homes in Lahj, a middle home,
Of it, and I have an abode of glory in Aden.
And I have a dignified home for me in Aden.

Then comes the allegiance through which I hope for deliverance
Then the loyalty by which I hope for salvation
From a headlong fall into the Fire—allegiance to the guide, Abu Hasan.
From the agony of fire, to the Guide Abu Hassan.
