على آلِ الرسولِ وأقربيه

على آلِ الرسولِ وأقربيه

سلامٌ كلّما سَجعَ الحَمامُ

سلامٌ كلّما سَجعَ الحَمامُ

Upon the Messenger's family and his closest kin,

Peace be upon the Prophet's family and kin

be peace whenever the doves coo.

Whenever the doves coo their lament

أليسوا في السماءِ همُ نجومٌ

أليسوا في السماءِ همُ نجومٌ

وهم أعلامُ عزٍّ لا يُرامُ

وهم أعلامُ عزٍّ لا يُرامُ

Are they not themselves stars in the heavens?

Are they not stars in the sky?

And they are banners of glory beyond reach.

They are flags of glory none can subdue

فيا مَن قد تَحيَّر في ضَلالٍ

فيا مَن قد تَحيَّر في ضَلالٍ

أميرُ المؤمنينَ هو الإمامُ

أميرُ المؤمنينَ هو الإمامُ

So, O you who have grown bewildered in error,

So you who are lost in misguidance

the Commander of the Faithful—he is the Imam.

The Commander of the Faithful is your imam

رسولُ الله يوم غدير خُمٍّ

رسولُ الله يوم غدير خُمٍّ

أنافَ به وقد حَضَر الأنامُ

أنافَ به وقد حَضَر الأنامُ

The Messenger of God, on the day of Ghadir Khumm,

Allah's Messenger on the day of Ghadir Khumm

raised him high, with the people already present.

Presented him while people were attending

وثاني أمرهِ الحسنُ المُرَجَّى

وثاني أمرهِ الحسنُ المُرَجَّى

له بيتُ المشاعرِ والمَقامُ

له بيتُ المشاعرِ والمَقامُ

And second in his charge is Hasan, in whom hope is placed;

Second in succession is al-Hasan, the Chosen

his are the House of the sacred sites and the Station.

To him belongs Mash'ar's house and chamber

وثالِثُه الحسينُ فليس يَخفى

وثالِثُه الحسينُ فليس يَخفى

سَنا بدرٍ إذا اختلطَ الظَّلامُ

سَنا بدرٍ إذا اختلطَ الظَّلامُ

And his third is Husayn: not hidden is

Third is al-Husayn, this is no secret

a full moon's radiance when darkness thickens.

Like a full moon when darkness mixes

ورابِعهمْ عليٌّ ذو المساعي

ورابِعهمْ عليٌّ ذو المساعي

به للدينِ والدّنيا قِوامُ

به للدينِ والدّنيا قِوامُ

And their fourth is Ali, a man of noble deeds;

Fourth is 'Ali, of great endeavor

through him, religion and worldly life are sustained.

Through him the religion and world stand

وخامِسُهمْ محمدٌ ارتضاه

وخامِسُهمْ محمدٌ ارتضاه

له في المأثُراتِ إذاً مَقامُ

له في المأثُراتِ إذاً مَقامُ

And their fifth is Muhammad, whom he approved;

Fifth is Muhammad whom he approved

for him, then, is a station among noble deeds.

His feats, when told, are his station

وجعفرُ سادسِ النجباء بدرٌ

وجعفرُ سادسِ النجباء بدرٌ

بِبهجتِهِ زَها البدرُ التَّمامُ

بِبهجتِهِ زَها البدرُ التَّمامُ

And Ja'far, sixth of the noble ones, is a full moon;

Sixth, Ja'far, is a full moon of the eminent

through his splendor, the moon in its fullness shone.

By his beam the full moon shines brightest

وموسى سابعٌ وله مَقام

وموسى سابعٌ وله مَقام

تَقاصرَ عن أدانيهِ الكِرامُ

تَقاصرَ عن أدانيهِ الكِرامُ

And Musa is seventh, and his is a station

Seventh is Musa, whose station

whose lowest reaches the noble fell short of.

The nearness of the generous cannot approach

علىٌّ ثامنٌ والقبرُ منهُ

علىٌّ ثامنٌ والقبرُ منهُ

بأرضِ الطّوسِ إن قَحَطوا رِهامُ

بأرضِ الطّوسِ إن قَحَطوا رِهامُ

Ali is eighth, and his tomb

'Ali is the eighth, and his tomb

in the land of Tus is gentle rain when they suffer drought.

Is in Tus if dried are its rains

وتاسِعهم طريدُ بني البَغايا

وتاسِعهم طريدُ بني البَغايا

محمدٌ الزكيُّ له حُسامُ

محمدٌ الزكيُّ له حُسامُ

And their ninth is the one driven out by the sons of harlots—

Ninth is their outcast, Muhammad the Pure

Muhammad the Pure, who has a keen sword.

For him are swords and steeds

وعاشِرُهم عليّ وهو حِصْنٌ

وعاشِرُهم عليّ وهو حِصْنٌ

يَحِنُّ لِفَقْدهِ البلدُ الحَرامُ

يَحِنُّ لِفَقْدهِ البلدُ الحَرامُ

And their tenth is Ali, and he is a fortress;

Tenth is 'Ali, a fortress

the Sacred City yearns for him in his absence.

For whose loss the Sacred House yearns

وحادي العَشْرِ مصابحُ المعالي

وحادي العَشْرِ مصابحُ المعالي

منيرُ الضَوْءِ الحسنُ الهُمامُ

منيرُ الضَوْءِ الحسنُ الهُمامُ

And the eleventh, the lamps of lofty virtues,

Eleventh are the beacons of glory

is Hasan the valiant, radiant in light.

The luminous, magnificent, gallant Hasan

وثاني العَشْر حانَ له قيامٌ

وثاني العَشْر حانَ له قيامٌ

محمدٌ الزكيُّ به اعتِصامُ

محمدٌ الزكيُّ به اعتِصامُ

And the twelfth, whose time to rise has come,

Twelfth arises; his standing is ready

is Muhammad the Pure; in him is refuge.

Muhammad the Pure, in him take hold

سيظهرُ عاجِلاً نُوراً خَفيّاً

سيظهرُ عاجِلاً نُوراً خَفيّاً

وينساقُ الأمورَ به انتظامُ

وينساقُ الأمورَ به انتظامُ

He will appear soon, a hidden light,

Soon he will reveal a concealed light

and through him affairs will fall into order.

Matters will flow straight by his means

أولئك في الجنانِ بهم مَساغي

أولئك في الجنانِ بهم مَساغي

وجيرتَي الخوامسُ والسَّلامُ

وجيرتَي الخوامسُ والسَّلامُ

Through those I have passage into the gardens of Paradise,

They in the Gardens have soothing drinks

and my neighbors are the Five. Peace.

While my neighbors are the fifth and peace
