ياO منwho غداwent forth حامِلاًcarrying جثمانَthe corpse of سَوَّارSawwār
يا من غدا حامِلاً جثمانَ سَوَّار
مِنfrom دارِهhis home ظاعناًdeparting منهاfrom it إلىto النارِthe Fire
مِن دارِه ظاعناً منها إلى النارِ
O you who went forth carrying Sawwār’s corpse,
O you who tomorrow will carry the corpse
from his home, departing from it toward the Fire:
Of one who departed his home for hellfire
لاmay … not قدّسَsanctify اللهGod رُوحاًa soul كانhe was هيكلَهاits bodily frame
لا قدّسَ الله رُوحاً كان هيكلَها
لقدindeed مضتit departed بعظيمِwith great الخِزيdisgrace والعارِand shame
لقد مضت بعظيمِ الخِزي والعارِ
May God not sanctify the soul whose bodily frame he was;
May God not sanctify a soul whose body
it has indeed departed with great disgrace and shame,
Passed with great dishonor and shame
حتىuntil هوتit plunged قعرَthe bottom of بُرهوتٍBurhūt معذّبةًtormented
حتى هوت قعرَ بُرهوتٍ معذّبةً
وجسمُهand his body فيin كنيفٍa privy بينamid أقذارِfilth
وجسمُه في كنيفٍ بين أقذارِ
until it plunged, tormented, to the bottom of Burhūt,
Until it fell to the bottom of a tormented abyss
and his body lies in a privy amid filth.
And his body is in a grave among the wicked
لقدindeed رأيتُI saw منfrom الرحمنthe Merciful مُعجِبةًa marvel
لقد رأيتُ من الرحمن مُعجِبةً
فيهconcerning him وأحكامهand His decrees تَجريunfold بمقدارِby measure
فيه وأحكامه تَجري بمقدارِ
I have indeed seen a marvel from the Merciful
I have seen from the Merciful, wondrous things
concerning him—and His decrees unfold in due measure.
About Him and His decrees unfolding precisely
فاذهبْso go عليكَupon you منfrom الرحمنِthe Merciful بَهلَتُهHis curse
فاذهبْ عليكَ من الرحمنِ بَهلَتُه
ياO شرَّworst حيٍّliving being براهcreated him الواحدُthe One الباريthe Creator
يا شرَّ حيٍّ براه الواحدُ الباري
So go—may the Merciful’s curse be upon you,
So may you suffer the wrath of the Merciful
O worst of living beings created by the One, the Creator!
O worst of the living, created by the Just Creator
ياO مُبغضاًa hater لأميرof the Commander of المؤمنينthe Faithful وقدand indeed
يا مُبغضاً لأمير المؤمنين وقد
قالsaid النبيُّthe Prophet لهto him منfrom دونwithout إنكارِobjection
قال النبيُّ له من دون إنكارِ
O hater of the Commander of the Faithful, though
O you who hate the Commander of the Faithful after
the Prophet said to him, without objection,
The Prophet said of him without denial
يومَon the day of الغديرGhadīr وكلُّand all الناسِthe people قدalready حَضرواthey were present
يومَ الغدير وكلُّ الناسِ قد حَضروا
منwhoever كنتُI was مولاهhis master فيin سرٍّsecrecy وإجهارand openly
من كنتُ مولاه في سرٍّ وإجهار
on the day of Ghadīr, when all the people were present:
On the day of Ghadeer with all people present
Whoever has me as his master, in secret and openly—
"For whom I am his master, in secret and openly"
هذاthis أخيmy brother ووصيِّيand my legatee فيin الأمورaffairs ومنand the one who
هذا أخي ووصيِّي في الأمور ومن
يَقومstands فيكمamong you مَقاميin my stead عندwhen تَذكاريthe remembrance of me
يَقوم فيكم مَقامي عند تَذكاري
this is my brother and my legatee in affairs, and the one
"This is my brother and my successor in all matters and whoever
who takes my place among you when I am remembered.
Will take my place for you all after I am gone"
ياO ربِّmy Lord عادbe hostile to الذيthe one who عاداهwas hostile to him منamong بَشَرٍhumankind
يا ربِّ عاد الذي عاداه من بَشَرٍ
وأصلِهِand make him burn فيin جحيمٍHell ذاتِfull of أَسعارِblazing flames
وأصلِهِ في جحيمٍ ذاتِ أَسعارِ
O my Lord, be the foe of any mortal who is his foe,
O Lord, return upon he who opposed whom You sent
and make him burn in Hell, full of blazing flames.
And throw him in hellfire of blazing flames
وأنتand you لاno شكَّdoubt عاديتَyou opposed إلالهَGod بهِthrough him
وأنت لا شكَّ عاديتَ إلالهَ بهِ
فياso, O جَحيمُHell ألاcome now هُبيّblaze up لِسوّارِfor Sawwār
فيا جَحيمُ ألا هُبيّ لِسوّارِ
And you have, without doubt, opposed God by opposing him;
You undoubtedly opposed God through him
so, O Hell, come now, blaze up for Sawwār!
Oh hellfire, rise up for Sawwar!
