O rider of a sturdy she-camel toward Medina,
O rider towards the city briskly
powerfully built, on which he crosses every desert plain,
With a she-camel whose every step binds

when God guides you and you behold Ja'far,
If God guides you, you will see Ja'far
then say to the friend of God and son of the refined one:
So say to thefriend of God and son of the refined one
ألاbehold ياO أمينَtrusted one of اللهGod وابنَand son of أمينِهHis trusted one
أتوبُI repent إلىto الرحمنthe All-Merciful ثُمّthen تأوُّبيmy return
Behold, O God's trusted one and son of His trusted one,
Do not O trustee of God and son of His trustee
I repent to the All-Merciful; then my return
I repent to the Merciful then repent through me

is to you, away from the matter in which I went to great lengths,
To you from the matter in which I was stubborn
fighting strenuously over it against every articulate speaker.
I fight in it a mujahid against all Arabists
إليكَto you رددتُI referred back الأمرَthe matter غيرُwithout مخالِفٍdissenting

To you I have referred the matter back, without dissent,
To you I have returned the matter without opposing
and I have returned to the All-Merciful from every doctrine,
And I have sought refuge with the Merciful from every doctrine

except what you deem right, O son of Muhammad's daughter,
Except what you see O son of Muhammad's daughter
for in it lie my creed and the nearness I seek.
For by it is my creed and my way of getting closer
وماand not كانwas قوليmy statement فيabout بنthe son of خولةَKhawla مُبطِناًconcealing
معاندةًdefiance منّيfrom me لنسلِtoward the descendants of المطيَّبِthe purified one
Nor did my words about the son of Khawla conceal
And my saying about Ibn Khawla was not implying
any defiance on my part toward the descendants of the purified one.
Rebellion from me towards the progeny of the perfumed one
ولكنْand yet رَويناwe transmitted عنfrom وصيِّthe appointed successor of محمدٍMuhammad
وماand not كانhe was فيماin what قالhe said بالمتكذِّبِa liar

But we transmitted from Muhammad's appointed successor—
But we narrated from the trustee of Muhammad
and he was no liar in what he said—
And there was no denial in what he said

ستيراًconcealed كفعلlike the conduct of الخائفthe fearful one المترقِّبِthe watchful one
that the holder of authority would go missing, unseen,
That the guardian of the affair will disappear unseen
hiding, as someone fearful and watchful would do.
Covered like the act of a watchful fearful one
فيقسِمthen he divides أموالَthe wealth of الفقيدِthe missing one كأنّماas though

Then he divides the missing man's wealth, as though
He divides the wealth of the disappeared one as if
he were hidden between upright slabs of stone.
His absence were between pitched tents

Then he remains for a time, then is made to rise,
He stays for a while then springs up a spring
like the rising of the star Jady from the horizon.
Like the spring of my grandfather from the horizon a planet

He marches with God's aid from his Lord's House,
He goes with God's victory from his Lord's house
with eminence from Him and an undertaking duly arranged.
On pillars from Him and a reasoned command

He marches toward his enemies with his banner,
He goes to his enemies with his banners
then kills them, like a man burning with thirst and rage.
And kills them a killing like angry Haran
فلمّاso when روىhe reported أنّthat ابنَthe son of خولةَKhawla غائبٌabsent

So when he reported that the son of Khawla was absent,
So when it was narrated that Ibn Khawla was absent
we applied our assertion to him, without rejecting the report.
We directed our words to him, we did not deny
وقلناand we said هوhe المهديُّthe rightly guided one (Mahdi) والقائمُand the one who rises (Qa'im) الذيwho

And we said: 'He is the Mahdi and the Qa'im, the one
And we said he is the Mahdi and the riser by whom
through whom, by his justice, every drought-stricken person lives.'
Everyone in need will live by his justice

So if I say 'No,' your word is the truth, and what
So if you say no, the truth is your word and what
you command is binding, without obstinate partisanship.
You ordered is definite, not obstinately adhered to

And I call my Lord to witness that your word is proof
And I witness my Lord that your word is proof
binding upon all creation, obedient and sinful alike:
Against mankind, whether obedient or sinful

that the holder of authority and the Qa'im, the one
That the guardian of the affair and the riser whom
toward whom my soul looks with joyful yearning,
My soul desires towards eagerly

has a period of absence that he must undergo;
Has an absence that he must be absent
so may God bless him, the one in hiding.
So may God send prayers on him from the absent one

Then he remains for a time; then his hour dawns,
He stays for a while then his time comes
then he fills every east and west with justice.
And he fills all east and west with justice
بذاكby that أدينI worship اللهَGod سِرّاًin secret وجَهرةًand openly
ولستُand I am not وإنْand even if عُوتبتُI am reproached فيهِfor it بمُعْتِبِone who appeases reproach
By this I worship God, in secret and openly,
By that I profess God secretly and openly
and even if reproached for it, I will not recant.
And I am not, even if blamed, one who finds faults
