ياO صاحبيَّmy two companions لدِمنتينfor two ruined campsites عَفاهُماeffaced them both
مَرُّthe passing of الرياحِthe winds عليهماover them both فمحاهُماand so erased them both
O my two companions, [pause] by two ruined campsites, effaced
By the winds passing over them, wiping them away.
أبلاهماwore them both away فقدُthe loss of الأنيسfamiliar company وهاطلٌand a downpour
حتىuntil تَبَيَّنَbecame evident للبصيرِto the seeing observer بِلاهُماtheir decay
The loss of familiar company and a downpour wore them away,
Until their decay was plain to the seeing eye.
جارٌa neighbor لجارَتِكَto your female neighbor النؤومِgiven to much sleep وتِربِهاand her age-mate
أيّامَin the days when أنتَyou هواهُماtheir beloved ومناهُماand their desire
A neighbor to your long-sleeping neighbor and her age-mate,
In the days when you were their love and their desire,
وهماand they both هواكَyour love وجارتاكَand your two female neighbors فأمستاthen they both became
ثانٍdiverting بيثربَin Yathrib عنaway from هواكَloving you هَواهُماtheir beloved
And they were your love and your two neighbors; then they were
Drawn away from loving you by their beloved in Yathrib.
