ليسis not الخليُّthe carefree man كمُسْعَرِlike one set ablaze by الأحزانِsorrows
ليس الخليُّ كمُسْعَرِ الأحزانِ
O my two companions, go your way and leave me;
O my friend, please go and leave me be
the carefree man is not like one ablaze with sorrows.
The anguish is not like a pleasant company

عند احتدامِ تبارزِ الأقرانِ
Were they the ones who fought in single combat on Badr’s morning
Are they the most important, who on the morn of Badr came out
amid the fierce duels of matched opponents,
When the valiant were matched in combat proximity

وهم بأبعدِ موقفِ ومَكانِ
or was it others who faced them,
Or was it others, who appointed them
while they stood at the farthest post and place,
While they were in the farthest stand and vicinity

when Utbah, al-Walid, and his uncle came,
When Utba, al-Walid and his uncle
walking in rings of mail?
Walked in a group of bodies and anatomy

At last, when affairs had ended and been settled,
Until when matters were finished and arranged
and the blessed one, the possessor of knowledge, had passed away,
And the blessed companion of wisdom and piety departed

they took the caliphate after that in a sudden move,
Afterwards they took the caliphate arbitrarily
and sought insight from one who possessed no faith.
And they opened their eyes to one without belief or sanity

Was it in Ahmad’s testament that they should prevail
Is it in Ahmad's will that they gain
if the Ansar contended for power?
When the Helpers revolted against authority

You witnessed his sons at prayer;
He only witnessed the prayers of his sons
you brought no clear proof concerning it.
No clear proof came in it certainly

As for Abu Dharr, Salman, and Miq-
But Abu Dharr, Salman, Miqdad

And Ammar, the one awake and vigilant

they did not cause Muhammad’s covenant to be forgotten
They did not forget the covenant of Muhammad
deliberately, nor did they turn to concealment.
Intentionally, and they did not resort to hiding or silence

Rather, they made clear what had been entrusted to them, and acted well;
Rather, they clarified what they were entrusted with and did good
so God will reward them for their good deeds.
So Allah will reward them for their grace and benevolence
