O my people, alas for the chosen Prophet,

and for what he endured from the best of nations!

They denied what he said about his brother

on the day of Khumm, among spreading trees arrayed in order:

“O people, whoever has had me

as guardian, acknowledging my right as binding from of old,

    Ali is his master—for whomever

I have been master.” A decree he made irrevocable.

Does his judgment not, then, take effect among them?

How astonishing—it kindles a blaze in the heart!
