أَشْهدُI bear witness باللهِby God وآلائِهand His bounties
أَشْهدُ باللهِ وآلائِه
والمرءُand a person مأجورٌrewarded علىfor صِدقِهِhis truthfulness
والمرءُ مأجورٌ على صِدقِهِ
I bear witness by God and His bounties,
I bear witness by Allah and His signs
And a person is rewarded for his truthfulness,
And man is rewarded for his truthfulness
أنthat عليّAli بنَson of أبيAbu طالبٍTalib
أن عليّ بنَ أبي طالبٍ
كانwas أمينَtrusted one of اللهِGod فيamong خَلقِهِHis creation
كان أمينَ اللهِ في خَلقِهِ
That Ali, son of Abu Talib,
That Ali ibn Abi Talib
Was God's trusted one among His creation.
Was the trustee of Allah among His creation
ماnot استبقَraced one another الناسُthe people إلىtoward غايةٍa goal
ما استبقَ الناسُ إلى غايةٍ
إلاّexcept that حَوىhe gained السّبْقَthe lead علىin addition to سَبْقِهِhis precedence
إلاّ حَوى السّبْقَ على سَبْقِهِ
Never did people race toward a goal
No one preceded people to any goal
But he won the lead, adding to his earlier precedence.
Except that he surpassed them by his precedence
