أليسَ عجيباً أنّ آلَ محمدٍ

أليسَ عجيباً أنّ آلَ محمدٍ

قتيلٌ وباقٍ هائمٌ وأسيرُ

قتيلٌ وباقٍ هائمٌ وأسيرُ

Is it not strange that, of Muhammad's family,

one is slain, another a wandering survivor, and another a captive?

تَنام الحمامُ الورقُ عند هُجوعها

تَنام الحمامُ الورقُ عند هُجوعها

ونومُهُمُ عند الرّقاد زَفيرُ

ونومُهُمُ عند الرّقاد زَفيرُ

The gray doves sleep when they settle to rest,

while the family's sleep, at the time of repose, is sighing.
