أينَwhere الجهادُstriving in battle وأينَand where فضلُthe merit of قَرابةٍkinship
أينَ الجهادُ وأينَ فضلُ قَرابةٍ
والعلمُand knowledge بالشُّبُهاتِof doubtful matters والتَفصيلُand clear exposition
والعلمُ بالشُّبُهاتِ والتَفصيلُ
Where is striving in battle, and where the merit of kinship,
And knowledge of doubtful matters, and clear exposition?
أينَwhere التَقدّمُbeing foremost بالصلاةِin prayer وكُلُّهمwhile all of them
أينَ التَقدّمُ بالصلاةِ وكُلُّهم
لِلاّتَto al-Lat يَعبدhe worships جَهرةًopenly ويَحولُand circles about
لِلاّتَ يَعبد جَهرةً ويَحولُ
Where is being foremost in prayer, while all of them
Worship al-Lat openly and circle about?
أينwhere الوَصِيّةُthe testamentary charge والقِيامُand fulfillment بِوَعْدِهof his promise
أين الوَصِيّةُ والقِيامُ بِوَعْدِه
وبِدينِهِand of his debt إنْif غرَّكhas deceived you المحصولُthe outcome
وبِدينِهِ إنْ غرَّك المحصولُ
Where are the testamentary charge and the fulfillment of his promise,
And the payment of his debt, if the outcome has deceived you?
أينwhere الجِوازُpermission to pass بمسجدٍthrough a mosque لاnot غيرُهother than him
أين الجِوازُ بمسجدٍ لا غيرُه
جُنُباًin major ritual impurity يَمُرُّhe passes بهِthrough it فأينَwhere, then تَحولُyou turn
جُنُباً يَمُرُّ بهِ فأينَ تَحولُ
Where is permission to pass through a mosque, where none but he
May pass while ritually impure? Where, then, do you turn?
هلwhether (introducing a question) كانthere was فيهمamong them إنif نظرتَyou looked مُناصحاًin good faith
هل كان فيهم إن نظرتَ مُناصحاً
لأبيto the father of الحسينِal-Husayn مُقاسِطٌa peer وعَديلُand an equal
لأبي الحسينِ مُقاسِطٌ وعَديلُ
Was there among them—if you looked in good faith—
A peer and equal to Abu al-Husayn?
