بأمرwith news of أميرناour emir لهمُfor them بَشيرُa bearer of glad tidings
The people of Tadmor rejoiced when there came to them
a herald with glad tidings concerning our emir.
ولاand no لأميرِناfor our emir ذنبٌoffense إليهمagainst them
صغيرٌsmall فيin الحياةِlife ولاnor كَبيرُgreat
And our emir has done them no wrong,
small or great in this life,
سوىexcept حُبِّlove of النبيِّthe Prophet وأقرَبيهand his nearest kin
ومولاهُمand their ally بِحُبَّهمُof their love جديرُworthy
save loving the Prophet and his nearest kin;
and their ally is worthy of their love.
وقالواand they said ليto me لكيماso that يَحزُنونيthey might sadden me

ولكنbut قولهمtheir words إفكfalsehood وزُورُand lies
And they told me, to sadden me—
but their words are falsehood and lies—

“Indeed, your brother Abu Bujayr is now
in a place where he is visited but visits no one.”

And the followers of the guide, Ali, remained
as though the earth beneath them were heaving.

So I spent the night as though, from what they hurled
at me, I were a captive in a leather fetter fitted with rings.

As though my tear ducts and the lids of my eyes
were pricked with thornbush spines, leaving them blinded.

I say: I owe the All-Merciful a vow,
a binding vow, where votive offerings are kept,

in Mecca, if I meet Abu Bujayr
safe and sound, with the banner advancing for him.
