    So leave that, and speak of the sons of Hashim,

    for in God you seek protection.

    Sons of Hashim, loving you draws one near to God,

    and loving you is the best thing known.

    كذاك غداً بكمُ يُختَمُ

    Through you God opened the gate of guidance;

    likewise, tomorrow, through you it will be sealed.

    ألا لائمي فيكمُ ألومُ

    I am blamed and suffer harm on your account;

    indeed, I blame the one who reproaches me over you.

    And I have no sin they count against me

    except that I am enamored of you,

    and that I love you and sincerely wish you well,

    and that through love for you I am protected.

    So now, in their eyes, my sin amounts to

    Pharaoh's exploits—or something greater.

    So may I ever find favor with you,

    just as I stand accused in their eyes.

    I have made my praise and commendation yours,

    in defiance of him who would humiliate me—his nose in the dust.
