    Our Prophet's namesake—none of them remained

    But him; in him hope came to rest.

    Then he was hidden away, without dying

    Or being slain; and destiny carried him

    To Radwa, where he settled in a ravine.

    Hyenas and gazelles dwell beside him.

    And among wild beasts he grazes in meadows,

    In far-off regions, their grazing grounds unpeopled.

    بِعُقْوَتِه له عسلٌ وماءُ

    So he settled there, with no human but himself;

    In the grounds around him, he has honey and water.

    Until a time and a term; every span of time,

    However long it lasts for him, has an end.

    So tell the hostile opponent who leads astray:

    You rise, yet they have no help to offer.

    May Khawla's son be ransomed by every wretch

    Who circles round him—and you be his ransom too.

    It is as though we see Khawla's son before long—

    And the Lord of the Throne does what He wills—

    Brandishing a sword just beneath the sun's eye,

    Like lightning's flash, made pure by burnishing.

    تُضيءُ له إذا طلع السَّماءُ

    You liken his face to a radiant moon;

    The sky shines for him when he rises.

    وهل بالشمس ضاحيةً خفَاءُ

    So he is hidden from no one with sight;

    And can the sun, shining openly, ever be hidden?

    There the factions will know that we

    Are lions whom equal opponents cannot hold back.

    So we shall overtake the sons of Umayy in blood vengeance,

    And in that vengeance lies their annihilation.
