محمدٌMuhammad خيرُthe best بنيthe sons of غالبِGhalib
محمدٌ خيرُ بني غالبِ
وبعدَهand after him ابنthe son of أبيAbu طالبِTalib
وبعدَه ابن أبي طالبِ
Muhammad is the best of the sons of Ghalib,
Muhammad is the best of the sons of Ghâlib
and after him comes the son of Abu Talib.
And after him the son of Abi Tâlib
هذاthis one نبيٌّa prophet ووصيٌّand a legatee لهُto him
هذا نبيٌّ ووصيٌّ لهُ
ويُعزلand is set aside العالمُthe learned one فيin جانبِa side
ويُعزل العالمُ في جانبِ
This one is a prophet, and the other his legatee,
This is a Prophet and his successor
yet the learned one is set aside.
And the world is isolated on one side
حدّثهhe related to him فيin مجلسِa sitting واحدsingle
حدّثه في مجلسِ واحد
ألفَa thousand حديثٍsaying مُعْجبٍmarvelous عاجِبِwondrous
ألفَ حديثٍ مُعْجبٍ عاجِبِ
He related to him in a single sitting
Narrate to him in one session
a thousand marvelous, wondrous sayings.
A thousand amazing, wonderful, astonishing hadiths
كلُّeach حديثٍsaying منamong أحاديثهhis sayings
كلُّ حديثٍ من أحاديثه
يفتحُopens ألفاًa thousand عِدّةthe count of الحاسبِthe reckoner
يفتحُ ألفاً عِدّة الحاسبِ
Each saying among his sayings
Every hadith of his hadiths
opens a thousand, by the reckoner’s count.
Opens a thousand, the enumerator's counting
فتلكthus those وفَّتْmade up in full ألفَa thousand ألفٍthousand لهfor him
فتلك وفَّتْ ألفَ ألفٍ له
فيهاin them جِماعُthe sum of المُحكَمِwhat is sound الصَّائِبِwhat is right
فيها جِماعُ المُحكَمِ الصَّائِبِ
Thus those made up a full thousand thousand for him;
So those fulfilled a thousand thousand for him
in them lies the sum of all that is sound and right.
