عليٌّ وأبو ذرٍّ

عليٌّ وأبو ذرٍّ

ومقدادٌ وسَلمانُ

ومقدادٌ وسَلمانُ

Ali and Abu Dharr,

and Miqdad and Salman,

وعبّاسٌ وعمّارٌ

وعبّاسٌ وعمّارٌ

وعبدُ الله إخوانُ

وعبدُ الله إخوانُ

and Abbas and Ammar,

and Abd Allah are brothers.

دُعوا فاستودِعوا عِلماً

دُعوا فاستودِعوا عِلماً

فأدَّوهُ وما خانوا

فأدَّوهُ وما خانوا

They were summoned and entrusted with knowledge,

so they conveyed it and did not betray the trust.

فصلّى ربُّ جبريلٍ

فصلّى ربُّ جبريلٍ

عليهم معشرٌ بانوا

عليهم معشرٌ بانوا

So may the Lord of Gabriel bless

them—a company who have departed.

أَدين اللهَ بالدّين ال

أَدين اللهَ بالدّين ال

ذي كانوا به دانوا

ذي كانوا به دانوا

I worship God through the faith

that they professed.

وعندي فيه إيضاح

وعندي فيه إيضاح

عن الحقِّ وبُرهانُ

عن الحقِّ وبُرهانُ

And concerning it I have a clear account

of the truth, and proof.

وما يَجحد ما قد قل

وما يَجحد ما قد قل

تُ في السِّبطَيْنِ إنسانُ

تُ في السِّبطَيْنِ إنسانُ

And no human being denies what I have

said concerning the two grandsons.

وإنْ أنكر ذو النَّصْبِ

وإنْ أنكر ذو النَّصْبِ

عندي فيهِ عِرْفانُ

عندي فيهِ عِرْفانُ

And though the hostile one denies it,

I have knowledge of it.

وإن عدوّه لي ذَنباً

وإن عدوّه لي ذَنباً

وحالُ الوصلِ هِجرانُ

وحالُ الوصلِ هِجرانُ

And if they count it a sin against me,

and fellowship's state is estrangement,

فلا كان لهذا الذن

فلا كان لهذا الذن

بِ عند القومِ غُفرانُ

بِ عند القومِ غُفرانُ

then may this sin never

find forgiveness among those people.

وكمْ عُدَّتْ إساءاتٌ

وكمْ عُدَّتْ إساءاتٌ

لقومٍ وهي إحسانُ

لقومٍ وهي إحسانُ

And how many deeds are counted as wrongs

against people, though they are good deeds!

وسّرى فيه يا راعيَ

وسّرى فيه يا راعيَ

دينِ اللهِ إعلانُ

دينِ اللهِ إعلانُ

And my secret in this [reading uncertain], O shepherd

of God's religion, is an open declaration.

فحُبّي لك إيمانٌ

فحُبّي لك إيمانٌ

ومَيْلي عنكَ كُفرانُ

ومَيْلي عنكَ كُفرانُ

For my love for you is faith,

and my turning away from you is unbelief.

فعدَّ القومُ ذا رفضاً

فعدَّ القومُ ذا رفضاً

فلا عَدُّوا ولا كانوا

فلا عَدُّوا ولا كانوا

So the people deemed this 'rejectionism';

then may they neither reckon nor exist!
