أمسىbecame at evening بعزّةَbecause of Azza هذاthis القلبُthe heart مَحزوناsorrowful
مُستودَعاًentrusted with سَقَماًa sickness فيin اللُّبِّthe innermost heart مَكنوناconcealed
By evening, this heart had grown sorrowful over Azza,
With sorrow my heart's dignity has become burdened
harboring a sickness concealed within its core.
Harboring illness secretively in its core
ياO عزُّAzza إنif تُعرِضيyou turn away عنّاfrom us وتَنتصحيand heed advice
قولَthe words of الوشاةِthe slanderers ومنand whoever يَلحاكمُreproaches you فِيناconcerning us
O Azza, if you turn away from us and heed
Oh my pride, if you turn away from us and become well
the words of slanderers and those who reproach you over us,
Believe not in the words of slanderers maligning us
وتَصرِميand sever الحبلَthe bond منfrom صبٍّa lovesick lover بكُمّwith you كَلفٌinfatuated
والصرمُand separation يُخلقwears away أهواءَthe passions of المُحبيناthe lovers
and sever the bond with a lovesick man infatuated with you—
And if you sever the rope of love from me though I'm fettered
and separation wears away lovers’ passions—
Severing only breeds the whims of lovers smitten
نَتركْwe shall forgo زيارَتَكُمْvisiting you منfrom غيرother than مَقلِيَةٍhatred
إنif كانthere is فيin تركِهاgiving it up ماsomething that عنكِaway from you يُسليناbrings us consolation
we shall stop visiting you, not out of hatred,
We'll stop visiting though it deeply grieves us
if giving it up can help us forget you.
If in leaving off lies what gives you comfort
