عليٌّAli أميرُCommander المؤمنينَof the faithful وعِزُّهُمand their glory
عليٌّ أميرُ المؤمنينَ وعِزُّهُم
إذاwhen الناسthe people خافواfear مُهلكاتِdeadly perils العَواقبِof consequences
إذا الناس خافوا مُهلكاتِ العَواقبِ
Ali is Commander of the Faithful and their glory,
Ali is the Commander of the Faithful, their pride
When people fear disastrous outcomes.
When people fear the destructive consequences
عليٌّAli هوhe الحاميthe protector المرجَّاthe one relied upon بفعلِهِthrough his deeds
عليٌّ هو الحامي المرجَّا بفعلِهِ
لدىon كلِّevery يومٍday باسلِfierce الشرِّin evil عاصبِdire
لدى كلِّ يومٍ باسلِ الشرِّ عاصبِ
Ali is the protector in whose deeds hope is placed,
Ali is the protector hoped for through his actions
On every dire day of fierce evil.
On every day facing the raging evil boldly
عليٌّAli هوhe المرهوبُthe feared one والذائذُand the defender الذيwho
عليٌّ هو المرهوبُ والذائذُ الذي
يَذودُwards off عنfrom الإسلامِIslam كلَّevery مُناصِبِhostile opponent
يَذودُ عن الإسلامِ كلَّ مُناصِبِ
Ali is the feared one and the defender who
Ali is the one who is feared and who flees
Wards off every enemy from Islam.
Protecting Islam from all who oppose it
عليٌّAli هوhe الغيثُthe rain الربيعُthe springtime معwith الحِباgifts
عليٌّ هو الغيثُ الربيعُ مع الحِبا
إذاwhen نَزلتbefalls بالناسِthe people إحدىone of المصائبِthe calamities
إذا نَزلت بالناسِ إحدى المصائبِ
Ali is the rain and the springtime, with bounty,
Ali is the pouring rain of spring with love
When a calamity befalls the people.
When afflictions befall the people
عليٌّAli هوhe العُدلthe just one الموفّقgranted success والرِّضاand the approved one
عليٌّ هو العُدل الموفّق والرِّضا
وفارجُand the dispeller لُبسِof confusion المبهماتِin obscure matters الغرائبِstrange
وفارجُ لُبسِ المبهماتِ الغرائبِ
Ali is the just one, granted success and well approved,
Ali is the accomplished justice and consent
And the dispeller of confusion in strange, obscure matters.
Clarifying the ambiguity of strange affairs
عليٌAli هوhe المأوىthe refuge لكلِّfor every مُطَرَّدٍone driven out
عليٌ هو المأوى لكلِّ مُطَرَّدٍ
شريدٍhomeless ومنحوبٍand afflicted منfrom الشرِّevil هاربِfleeing
شريدٍ ومنحوبٍ من الشرِّ هاربِ
Ali is the refuge for everyone driven out,
Ali is the refuge for every outcast
Homeless and afflicted, fleeing from evil.
Wanderer and exiled escaping evil
عليٌّAli هوhe المهديُّthe rightly guided one والمُقتَدىand the one emulated بهhim as a model
عليٌّ هو المهديُّ والمُقتَدى به
إذاwhen الناسُthe people حارواare bewildered فيamong فنونِthe varieties المذاهبِof doctrines
إذا الناسُ حاروا في فنونِ المذاهبِ
Ali is the rightly guided one and the example to follow,
Ali is the Guided One to follow
When people are bewildered among the various doctrines.
When people are confused by doctrines’ ways
عليٌّAli هوhe القاضيthe judge الخطيبُthe orator بقولِهwith his speech
عليٌّ هو القاضي الخطيبُ بقولِه
يجيءُhe comes بماwith what يعياis at a loss بهover it كلّevery خاطِبِspeaker
يجيءُ بما يعيا به كلّ خاطِبِ
Ali is the judge and orator; with his words
Ali is the judge, the orator in his words
He brings forth what leaves every speaker at a loss.
Coming with what silences every speaker
عليٌّAli هوhe الخَصمُthe disputant القؤولُeloquent بحجّةٍwith an argument
عليٌّ هو الخَصمُ القؤولُ بحجّةٍ
يَرُدُّhe refutes بهاwith it قولَthe claim العدوِّof the enemy المُشاغبِcontentious
يَرُدُّ بها قولَ العدوِّ المُشاغبِ
Ali is the eloquent disputant, with an argument
Ali is the contender, debater with argument
With which he refutes the contentious enemy's claim.
Refuting thereby the words of the hostile agitator
عليٌّAli هوhe البدرُthe full moon المنيرُradiant ضِياؤهhis light
عليٌّ هو البدرُ المنيرُ ضِياؤه
يُضيءshines سَناهhis radiance فيin ظلامِthe darkness الغياهبِof deep gloom
يُضيء سَناه في ظلامِ الغياهبِ
Ali is the full moon, whose light is radiant;
Ali is the shining full moon, his light
His radiance shines in the darkness of deepest gloom.
Illuminates the darkness of the unknown
عليٌّAli أعزُّthe mightiest الناسِof people جاراًas a neighbor وحامياًand as a protector
عليٌّ أعزُّ الناسِ جاراً وحامياً
وأقتلُهمand the deadliest of them للقِرنِagainst the rival يومَon the day الكتائبِof the battalions
وأقتلُهم للقِرنِ يومَ الكتائبِ
Ali is the mightiest of men as a neighbor and protector,
Ali is the most honorable of people as a neighbor and protector
And the deadliest of them to a rival on the day the battalions clash.
And the deadliest to the enemy in calamities
عليٌّAli أعمُّthe most far-reaching الناسof people حِلماًin forbearance ونائلاًand in bounty
عليٌّ أعمُّ الناس حِلماً ونائلاً
وأجودُهمand the most generous of them بالمالِwith wealth حقّاًtruly لطالبِto a seeker
وأجودُهم بالمالِ حقّاً لطالبِ
Ali has the widest-reaching forbearance and bounty of all men,
Ali is the most forbearing and attainable of people
And is truly their most generous giver of wealth to any seeker.
And the most generous to the seeker in truth
عليٌّAli أَكَفُّthe most self-restrained الناسof people عنfrom كلّevery مَحْرمٍforbidden thing
عليٌّ أَكَفُّ الناس عن كلّ مَحْرمٍ
وأتقاهمand the most reverent of them للهِtoward God فيin كلّevery جانبِrespect
وأتقاهم للهِ في كلّ جانبِ
Ali is the most self-restrained of men, avoiding all that is forbidden,
Ali is the most abstinent of people from all sin
And the most God-fearing of them in every respect.
And the most God-fearing in every aspect
