ماnever جَرَتْpassed خطرةٌa fleeting thought علىacross القلبِthe heart منّيof mine
فيكَof you إلاّexcept that استترتُI hid myself عنfrom أَصحابِيmy companions
Never has a fleeting thought crossed this heart of mine
No thought crossed my heart about you
Of you, but I have hidden from my companions
That I didn't conceal from my friends
منbecause of دموعٍtears تَجريflow فإنْand if كنتُI am وَحديalone
خالياًin solitude أسْعَدتaided دُموعيmy tears انتحابيmy sobbing
Because of tears that flow; and if I am alone,
With tears that flow, so if I were alone
In solitude, my tears aid my sobbing.
My weeping would bring me solace
إنَّindeed حُبّيmy love إِيّاكَfor you قدalready سَلَّwasted جِسميmy body
ورَمانيand struck me بالشَّيْبِwith gray hair قبلَbefore الشبابِyouth
Indeed, my love for you has already wasted my body
Indeed my love for you has worn down my body
And struck me with gray hair before youth.
And brought me gray hair before youth
لوif مَنحتyou granted اللِقاthe meeting شَفىwould heal بكthrough you صباًa lovesick lover
هائمَdistraught with love القلبِthe heart قدalready ثَوىcame to rest فيin الترابِthe dust
If you granted a meeting, it would heal, through you, a lovesick lover,
If I were granted a meeting, I'd be cured by you, O youth
Distraught of heart, who has already come to rest in the dust.
My heart, crazed, lies in the dust
