وعصبةٍand a band فتَّشتinvestigated عنّيabout me وعنand about حَسبيmy ancestral honor
وعصبةٍ فتَّشت عنّي وعن حَسبي
فزادهاso it increased them حَسَداًin envy بحثٌinquiry وتفتيشُand investigation
فزادها حَسَداً بحثٌ وتفتيشُ
And a band investigated me and my ancestral honor;
A league has inquired into my lineage, out of envy,
So inquiry and investigation increased their envy.
Seeking out trivial details, asking and prying.
يُخفيconceals علىfrom أغبياءِthe fools among الناسِpeople مَعرفتيknowledge of me
يُخفي على أغبياءِ الناسِ مَعرفتي
أنّيthat I am النهارُthe day وهمْand they فيهin it الخفافيشُthe bats
أنّي النهارُ وهمْ فيه الخفافيشُ
What keeps the fools among people from knowing me
It hides from the ignorant that I am the bright day
is that I am the day, and they are the bats within it.
While they are bats bewildered by the light.
