وعليُّ أوَّلَ الناسَ اهتدى

وعليُّ أوَّلَ الناسَ اهتدى

بهُدى اللهِ وصلّى وادَّكرْ

بهُدى اللهِ وصلّى وادَّكرْ

And Ali was the first of humankind to be guided

Ali was the first of people to be guided

by God's guidance, to pray, and to take heed.

By the guidance of Allah, praying and remembering

وحّد اللهَ ولم يُشركْ به

وحّد اللهَ ولم يُشركْ به

وقريشٌ أهل عُودٍ وحَجَرْ

وقريشٌ أهل عُودٍ وحَجَرْ

He affirmed God's oneness and associated no partners with Him,

He affirmed the oneness of Allah and did not associate anything with Him

while Quraysh were devotees of wood and stone.

While the Quraysh were people of idols and stone

وعليٌّ خازنُ الوحي الذي

وعليٌّ خازنُ الوحي الذي

كان مستودَع آياتِ السُّورْ

كان مستودَع آياتِ السُّورْ

And Ali was the keeper of revelation, the one who

And Ali was the keeper of the revelation which

was entrusted with the verses of the surahs.

Was a repository for the verses of the surahs

مُجبر قال لدينا عددٌ

مُجبر قال لدينا عددٌ

وجميعٌ من جماهيرِ البَشرْ

وجميعٌ من جماهيرِ البَشرْ

A predestinarian said, “We have numbers

Mujabir said we have a number for our religion

and a multitude from the masses of humankind.”

And all are from the masses of humanity

قلت ذمَّ اللهُ ربّي جَمعُكمْ

قلت ذمَّ اللهُ ربّي جَمعُكمْ

وبه تَنطِق آيات الزُّبُرْ

وبه تَنطِق آيات الزُّبُرْ

I said, “God, my Lord, has condemned your multitude,

I say may Allah, my Lord, gather you all

and the verses of the scriptures declare it:

And the verses of the scripture speak through you

من زُها سبعين ألفٍ برّةً

من زُها سبعين ألفٍ برّةً

وسِواها في عَذابٍ وسَعَرْ

وسِواها في عَذابٍ وسَعَرْ

Some seventy thousand among humankind are righteous,

Of seventy thousand pious souls

and those besides them are in torment and blazing fire.”

And the others in torment and hellfire
