The book of the deaths of those against whom
separation unjustly mustered its troops—
جمعناهwe compiled it لماwhen سقاناgave us to drink الهوىlove
جمعناه لما سقانا الهوى
أفاويقsuccessive draughts لمnot نستطعwe could ردهاrefuse them
أفاويق لم نستطع ردها
we compiled it when love gave us
draughts we could not refuse.
وسقناand we recounted أحاديثtales منthose who جاوزتexceeded
وسقنا أحاديث من جاوزت
بهin his case فجعاتcalamities النوىseparation حدهاtheir bounds
به فجعات النوى حدها
And we recounted tales of those for whom
the calamities of separation exceeded their bounds.
