Why did he not, in his passion, brave
Does he not endure for love of them
the crossing of desert wastes in their wake,
The torments, though the tracks are far across?
حتىuntil يظلhe spends the day يجيبهhe traverses it
حتى يظل يجيبه
قلقاrestless ويمسيand by evening becomes الطرفthe eye غامزblinking
قلقا ويمسي الطرف غامز
till he spent the day traversing their trail,
So that he answers them, restless,
restless, his eye blinking by evening?
And spends the night with eyes that dart.

أترى متى أنا منكم
بوصالكمthrough union with you ياO فوزFawz فائزa winner
بوصالكم يا فوز فائز
When, do you think, shall I, from you,
When shall I be of you, that my life
win union with you, O Fawz?

ولقدand indeed خلوتI was alone بهاwith her وأبand I sent away (word begins)

Indeed, I was alone with her and sent
For I have talked with her alone, and turned

ما بيننا والصون حاجز
at night; our chastity was
By night our virtue was restraint

Which stood between us, guarding chastity.
