قد صنف الناس في أهل الهوى كتبا
فيabout منthose who صحاsobered بعدafter سكرٍdrunkenness منهfrom it أوor عظباperished (likely intended as عطبا)
في من صحا بعد سكرٍ منه أو عظبا
People have written books about those in love,
People have composed books classifying lovers,
About those who sobered after its drunkenness, or perished.
On those who recovered after intoxication or became perplexed.
وأكثرواand they wrote many غيرexcept أنيthat I قدindeed جمعتI compiled لهمfor them
وأكثروا غير أني قد جمعت لهم
وماand not اختصرتI abridged كتاباa book رائقاdelightful عجباwondrous
وما اختصرت كتابا رائقا عجبا
And they wrote many; yet I have compiled for them,
They have elaborated extensively, yet I have compiled for them,
Without abridgment, a delightful, wondrous book.
And have not condensed a finer, more wondrous book.
ذكرتI recounted فيهin it باسنادٍwith a chain of transmission مصارعهمtheir deaths
ذكرت فيه باسنادٍ مصارعهم
عجماًnon-Arabs وجدتهمI found them فيamong الناسthe people أوor عرباArabs
عجماً وجدتهم في الناس أو عربا
In it I recounted their deaths, with a chain of transmission,
In it, I have chronicled, with supporting evidence,
Whether I found them among the people as non-Arabs or Arabs.
Their demise, whether I found them among non-Arabs or Arabs.
