They have a covenant with God
They strive in pursuit of useful knowledge.
Seeking benefits everywhere
يدعونthey are called أصحابpeople of الحديthe hadith (word continues)
يدعون أصحاب الحدي
ثcompletion of 'hadith' بهمthrough them تجملتhave been adorned المشاهدthe gathering places
ث بهم تجملت المشاهد
They are called the people of hadith;
Claiming to be righteous
through them the gathering places have been adorned.
Yet with them the sights have adorned
طوراًat times تراهمyou see them بالصعيin Upper Egypt (word continues)
طوراً تراهم بالصعي
دcompletion of 'Upper Egypt' وتارةand at other times فيin ثغرthe frontier town of آمدAmid
د وتارة في ثغر آمد
At times you see them in Upper Egypt,
You see them once in hardship
and at others in the frontier town of Amid.
And another in joyful cheer
يتبعونthey pursue منamong العلوthe sciences (word continues)
يتبعون من العلو
مcompletion of 'sciences' بكلin every أرضٍland كلevery شاردstray fragment
م بكل أرضٍ كل شارد
They pursue, among the fields of learning,
Following every science
in every land, every stray fragment.
In every land from afar
وهمand they النجومthe stars المهتدىused for guidance
وهم النجوم المهتدى
بهمby them الىto سبلthe paths المقاصدthe goals
بهم الى سبل المقاصد
And they are the stars; one is guided
They are the guiding stars
by them to the paths leading to one's goals.
