How lovely is Najd, a land! We have found no

rest for the heart in any other land.

And whenever a flash of lightning gleams from it,

or its east wind blows, my longings stir.

I do not forget when Sulayma was a neighbor,

freely offering affection and giving us her sincere love.

Then, when her home grew distant,

and separation struck her from whatever quarter it did,

she sent a phantom of sleep, but it

visited us when sleep had already fled the eye.
