By God, what a remnant of life passion has left,
For God, what remains of love but agony
Within it is an illness of separation whose cure is elusive;
In it lies a malady with cure hard to find

And a heart that parting shot on the day of parting from them,
And a heart, separation's arrow did maim
With an arrow—and did not miss it when it shot (reading the unclear ومنا as وما, 'and not').
With an aim gone astray when it shot the mark
