    And a gazelle-like youth of the monks’ sons forsook me—

    my beloved—already famed among the people and well known.

    And he said, “Were you lovesick, you would have ransomed yourself with the one

    you love, in his wearing the girdle and haircloth.”

    So I said, “I seek no substitute for my sin,

    even if my passion were to melt my bones and wear them away.”

    والعزم في الأمر مما يعقب الضفرا

    And that act of his was the source of my forgetting him;

    and resolve in a matter is among what brings braiding [perhaps intended: victory].
