أفلحprospered عبدa servant غصىresisted (apparently intended as عصى) هواهhis desire
أفلح عبد غصى هواه
وفاقand excelled فيin دينهhis faith وكاساand acted wisely
وفاق في دينه وكاسا
A servant prospers who resists his desire,
The servant has triumphed who suppressed his desires,
excels in his faith and acts wisely,
And excelled in his religion and lived modestly.
ولمand did not يرحgo about مدمناًaddicted لخمرٍto wine
ولم يرح مدمناً لخمرٍ
ينهلdrinks a first draught طاساًa bowlful ويعلand drinks again كاساa cupful
ينهل طاساً ويعل كاسا
and does not go about addicted to wine,
He did not persist being addicted to wine,
drinking a bowlful first, then a cupful again.
Drinking cup after cup getting intoxicated.
