Then I became one of those who excused them.

Thus I became one of their apologists

فكم عاشق ذاق يوم النوى

وقد غرد الحاديان المنونا

وقد غرد الحاديان المنونا

For many a lover tasted, on the day of parting,

So how many a lover tasted separation

Death, while the two camel-drivers sang.

While the heartsick nightingales sang their elegy
