In which we praise anything but the sword.

To our homelands, year after year!

Pouring copiously upon the land of al-Hisn.

Sleepless-eyed, they spend the night journeying,

Then pay a night visit to young men who were asleep.

    They wage war against the enemies on their behalf;

And how could dawn make peace with darkness?

I stayed—and how could a hopeful seeker leave you,

Having seen you as the sea and a noble king?

Nor continued my night journeys for a full month.

When your smiling welcome returns to me and endures.

And if I clothe you in the striped robes of rhyme,

You have indeed clothed me in immense blessings.
