Say to the prince who rose high and became

Robed in eminence and girded with it:

You opened the gate of eminence, and one like you does not

Close the gate of generosity that he opened.

Far be it from you to lack generosity, or for

One who hopes in you to be disappointed after succeeding,

Or for the reproacher to say, rejoicing:

“He awoke from generosity’s intoxication and sobered up.”

I adjure you by God and by those whose

Excellence has become manifest in the Book:

Do not cut off the customary bounty I received before,

And do not turn my ease into hardship.
