Life’s sweetest pleasure is visiting the fair-faced one,
The sweetest life is to enjoy the morn,
And defying counsel and the counselor,
And disobey advice and the advisor;

And listening to a string and a reed flute,
To listen to the lute and flute,
When both wail over a wounded wineskin,
When they lament about the wounded heart;

إلى ضحك من الزهر المليح
On a morning when a dark, rain-laden cloud weeps
After a dark and extinguished night that weeps,
To the laughter of lovely blossoms,
To laughter from a pretty flower;

And her bewildered young she-camels have been urged onward
As though its anklets were chiming,
By an eloquent camel-driver—one of her thunderclaps;
With a sharp clink from its bracelets.

And lightning like the two edges of a cloak,
Its lightning is like the border of a cloak,
New and gold-embroidered, on a windy day.
Newly gilded on a windy day.
