Ja‘far drew away from his wife,
Ja'far strayed from his wedding,
and distance pleased them both after closeness.
And distance delighted them after being close.
وكانتand she was تَصبوlonging إلىfor غيرهsomeone other than him
وكانَand he was إلىtoward غيرِهاsomeone other than her ذاgiven to تَصَابيyouthful dalliance
She was longing for someone other than him,
She yearned for another,
and he was given to youthful dalliance with someone other than her.
And he lusted for someone else.
فبَيناso while هُماthey both يَتْبعانِboth follow الهَوَىdesire
علىwith حَذَرٍcaution مِنهماon both their parts وارتقابِand watchfulness
So while both were following desire,
While they both followed desire,
with caution and watchfulness on both their parts,
Wary of each other, watching.
أتاحَafforded الزمانُtime لهُto him سَفرةًa journey
مُعجَّلةًhurried لمnot تَكُنْwas فيin الحِسابِthe reckoning
Time afforded him a journey,
Fate granted him a sudden journey,
a hurried one he had not reckoned on.
Unplanned, unforeseen.
فمكَّنَهاso it enabled her منto قِيادِtaking the reins of الزُّناةِthe adulterers
وتُمكِنُهand it enables him منto قِيادِtaking the reins of القِحابِthe whores
So it let her take the reins of adulterers,
It enabled her to lead the adulterers,
and lets him take the reins of whores.
And enabled him to lead the immoral.
فوَدَّاso they both wished وقدand indeed وُفِّقَاthey were both favored للفِراقِwith separation

So both wished, having been favored with separation,
They missed when they were enabled to part,
that their reunion be on the Day of Reckoning.
That the day of judgement is the day they will meet again.
