أُقارِعُI battle أَعْدَاءَthe enemies الَّنِبيِّof the Prophet وآلِهِand his family
أُقارِعُ أَعْدَاءَ الَّنِبيِّ وآلِهِ
قِرَاعاًcombat يَفُلُّblunts البَيْضَthe bright swords عِنْدَat قِراعِهits clash
قِرَاعاً يَفُلُّ البَيْضَ عِنْدَ قِراعِه
I battle the enemies of the Prophet and his family
I strike the enemies of the Prophet and his family
in combat that blunts bright swords as they clash.
With a striking that makes the eggs crumble at his striking
وَأَعْلَمُand I know كُلَّall العِلْمِknowledge أنَّthat وَلِيَّهُمْtheir loyal ally
وَأَعْلَمُ كُلَّ العِلْمِ أنَّ وَلِيَّهُمْ
سَيُجْزَيwill be recompensed غَدَاةَon the morning of البَعْثِresurrection صَاعاًa grain measure بصَاعِهِfor his measure
سَيُجْزَي غَدَاةَ البَعْثِ صَاعاً بصَاعِهِ
And I know with perfect certainty that their loyal ally
And I know full well that their patron
will be repaid on Resurrection's morning, measure for measure.
Will be rewarded tomorrow after the resurrection, measure for measure
فَلاso may … never زَالَcease مَنْwhoever وَالاهُمُwas loyal to them فيin عُلُوِّهِhis exaltation
فَلا زَالَ مَنْ وَالاهُمُ في عُلُوِّهِ
وَلاand may … never زَالَcease مَنْwhoever عَادَاهُمُopposed them فيin اتِّضَاعِهِhis abasement
وَلا زَالَ مَنْ عَادَاهُمُ في اتِّضَاعِهِ
So may whoever is loyal to them ever remain exalted,
So he who supported them continues in his exaltation
and may whoever opposes them ever remain abased.
And he who opposed them continues in his humiliation
ومَعْتَزِلِيٌّand a Muʿtazilite رَامَsought عَزْلَsevering وِلايَتيmy allegiance
ومَعْتَزِلِيٌّ رَامَ عَزْلَ وِلايَتي
عَنِfrom الشَّرَفِthe honor العَاليlofty بِهِمْthrough them وارتِفَاعِهِand its elevation
عَنِ الشَّرَفِ العَالي بِهِمْ وارتِفَاعِهِ
And a Muʿtazilite sought to sever my allegiance
And a dissenter tried to separate my loyalty
from the lofty honor and eminence it enjoys through them.
From their lofty nobility and exaltation
فَمَاso … not طَاوَعَتْنِيcomplied with me النَّفْسُthe soul فيin أَنْto أُطِيعَهُI obey him
فَمَا طَاوَعَتْنِي النَّفْسُ في أَنْ أُطِيعَهُ
وَلاand not آذَنَgave permission القُرآنُthe Qur’an ليto me فيin اتِّبَاعِهِfollowing him
وَلا آذَنَ القُرآنُ لي في اتِّبَاعِهِ
So my soul would not consent to my obeying him,
But my soul did not obey me in obeying him
nor did the Qur’an permit me to follow him.
Nor did the Qur'an permit me to follow him
طبعتI was fashioned علىfor حبlove الوصيthe designated successor ولمand did not يكنbe
طبعت على حب الوصي ولم يكن
لينقلto be turned مطبوعone innately disposed الهوىlove عنfrom طباعهhis nature
لينقل مطبوع الهوى عن طباعه
I was fashioned to love the designated successor, and never could
I was imprinted with love for the successor, and it was not
one whose love is inborn be turned from his nature.
Possible for the imprinted passion to move from its imprinting
