كمhow many نعمةa blessing ألبستI was clothed in منfrom نعمانNuʿmān
كم نعمة ألبست من نعمان
لمdid not تلقهاgreet it الأعضاءthe limbs بالكفرانwith ingratitude
لم تلقها الأعضاء بالكفران
How many blessings Nuʿmān has clothed me in,
How many blessings have I been clothed with
Which my limbs did not greet with ingratitude.
That my limbs have not met with ingratitude
جاءcame الزمانtime بهwith him حياةa life غضةfresh and tender
جاء الزمان به حياة غضة
فيin كلevery حينhour قاتلdeadly وأوانand season
في كل حين قاتل وأوان
Time brought him as a fresh, tender life
Time has come with fresh life in it
In every deadly hour and season.
A killer and executioner at all times
يعطيgives العليلthe sick man شفاءهhis cure فيin لفظهhis utterance
يعطي العليل شفاءه في لفظه
وشفاؤهand his cure متعذرunattainable الإمكانpossibility
وشفاؤه متعذر الإمكان
He gives the sick man his cure through his words,
He gives remedy to the ailing with his utterance
Though his cure is impossible to achieve.
And his remedy is beyond possibility
إنif كانwas قدindeed فقدwas lost المسيحthe Messiah فإنهthen indeed he
إن كان قد فقد المسيح فإنه
فيماin what يجيءhe comes بهwith it المسيحthe Messiah الثانيthe second
فيما يجيء به المسيح الثاني
If the Messiah has indeed been lost, then he is—
If the Messiah is lost
In what he brings—the second Messiah.
In what the second Messiah brings
