The two Khālidīs have a handsome appearance,

    And attire that fills the beholder's eye;

And disgrace lies in their notorious conduct.

They were alike in looks and inner character,

And shared a vulva until death.

The might of the younger one's plow tills it,

And the crop, if it ripens there, is the elder's.

I say, when they both planned a shameful deed,

Behind a screen of theirs that did not conceal them,

And wrestled the thicket's tawny gazelle into the dust,

And shared out the turbaned one with their glances,

And caressed the roses with a red rose,

And their hands played over the smooth plain:

Which of them is husband to the dark-eyed gazelle?

Is it the look-alike's companion, who has changed nothing,

Or the dyed-haired one with his counterfeit youth?

And how many a hidden shameful deed is theirs,

In every remote desert camp and settled abode,

Revealing the opposite of radiant morning.

And a woman whose face was like al-Mushaqqar's rock—

A hoof could batter it without leaving a mark—

Mistress to two husbands and a secret lover,

She delights in the pounding of 'Kharāb al-Baryar'—an obscure phrase—

And is love-tormented by every dusky one.

Was it when her gray hair had become a mail helmet,

And she had shed the robe of radiant youth,

And passed the age of a newly nubile girl,

That she yearned for every thick, bulging penis?

So she scented with ambergris something ambergris-colored,

And a throat within a collar of jewels,

And sat between refuse and a dusty lout.

Then both drank from her filed-toothed mouth

Saliva like the bee's saffron-tinted saliva,

And both tugged at the loincloth of one whose loins were forbidden,

Then met her vulva with a penis.

A joust on a laughing, joyful day,

In which no horses stumbled in dust,

In which the pierced one forgets the enormity of the outrage,

Even if she resembled the foul-breathed blind man's wife.

And the wife of Ibn al-ʿAṣab al-Muḥakkar—

She who is fuel for the Fire on the Day of Gathering—

Would have plundered the ridge of al-Ṣafā and al-Mashʿar.

And how can the blind man have the one-eyed man's luck?

    A disgrace—were al-Kawthar's waters to overflow,

And the rumbling, rain-bearing clouds to pour down,

And the deep waters of a green sea to flash,

Until you saw the expanse of a desolate land—

It would not prevail over the one to whom those two belong.

I dare indeed to strip you both,

And am no miser in what I let loose.

So hear, both of you, a beauty which, were it not shunned,

The orator would use to adorn the pulpit's neck.
