لك يا ابن العصب

Yours, O Ibn al-ʿAṣab,

al-Maḥallī, is an honor open to violation,

وقفا فيه لأيدي

وقفا فيه لأيدي

الشرب جد ومزاح

الشرب جد ومزاح

and a nape where the hands

of drinking companions act in earnest and in jest.

فهو للصفع قريح

فهو للصفع قريح

وهو للرحب قراح

وهو للرحب قراح

So it is sore from slapping,

and, in its breadth, a bare field.

وقريض مثل ما تن

وقريض مثل ما تن

طق باللغو الفقاح

طق باللغو الفقاح

And verse like what is uttered

in idle chatter by anuses.

لست أدري أسلاح لك

لست أدري أسلاح لك

منه أم سلاحُ

منه أم سلاحُ

I cannot tell: is it a weapon you have

from it, or dung?
