أُنظُرْlook إلىat السَّوسَنِthe iris فيin نَباتِهits growth
أُنظُرْ إلى السَّوسَنِ في نَباتِه
فإنَّهfor indeed it is نَبْتٌa plant عَجيبُwondrous المَنظَرِthe appearance
فإنَّه نَبْتٌ عَجيبُ المَنظَرِ
Look at the iris as it grows,
For it is a plant wondrous to behold.
كأنَّهُas though it were مَلاعِقٌspoons منof فِضَّةٍsilver
كأنَّهُ مَلاعِقٌ من فِضَّةٍ
قدalready خُطَّwere traced فيهاon them نُقَطٌdots منof عَنْبَرِambergris
قد خُطَّ فيها نُقَطٌ من عَنْبَرِ
As though it were spoons of silver,
On which dots of ambergris have been traced.
