وجَدْوَلٍand a stream بينَbetween حَديقَتَيْنِtwo gardens
مُطَّرَدٍflowing steadily مثلِlike حُسامِkeen sword القَيْنِthe smith
And a stream between two gardens,
A stream between two gardens
Flowing steadily like a smith's keen sword:
Flowing steadily like a spear blade
كَسَوْتُهُI clothed it واسعةَbroad القُطرَيْنِboth sides
تَنظُرُit gazes فيinto الماءِthe water بغيرِwithout عَينِan eye
I clothed it in a net broad on both sides,
I lined its banks, broadening its bed
It gazes into the water without an eye,
It looks into the water without eyes
راصِدةًlying in wait كلَّevery قَريبِone near الحَيْنِdeath
تُبْرِزُهُit brings it forth مُجنَّحَwinged الجَنَبْينِboth sides
Lying in wait for each one whose death is near.
Lying in wait for every moment
It brings it forth, winged on both sides,
Flapping its fins
كَمِدْيَةٍlike a knife مَصقولَةِpolished الحَدَّيْنِboth edges
كأنَّماas though صِيغَتْit was fashioned منfrom اللُّجَيْنِsilver
Like a knife with both edges polished,
Like a polished metallic fish
As though it had been fashioned from silver:
As if it was molded from silver
رِزقاًbounty هنيئاًpleasant يملأُfills اليَديْنِboth hands
بغيرِwithout كَدٍّtoil وبغيرِand without أينِweariness
A pleasant bounty that fills both hands,
Plentiful sustenance to fill both hands
Without toil and without weariness.
Without toil or asking where
