فَلأْلاَؤُهَا أَضْحَى كَضَوْءِ جَبينِه
And a cupbearer became enamored of the cup;
With passion for the cup, he became enamored,
So its sparkle became like the light of his brow.
So its radiance became like the glow of his forehead.

He gave me unmixed wine to drink from it one evening,
He gave me to drink the pure wine one evening,
And followed it with another draught of nectar from his eyelids.
And sipped another from the nectar of his eyelids.

Slender-waisted, with a crimson cheek,
The reveler with rosy cheeks and languid eyes
He shows you the rose's redness out of season.
Shows you the redness of roses outside their season.
فَأَشْرَبُso I drink مِنfrom يُمْنَاهُhis right hand ماwhat فَوْقَupon خَدِّهِhis cheek
فَأَشْرَبُ مِن يُمْنَاهُ ما فَوْقَ خَدِّهِ
وأَلْثِمُand I kiss مِنْfrom خَدَّيْهِhis two cheeks مَاwhat فيin يَمينِهِhis right hand

So I drink from his right hand what is upon his cheek,
So I drink from his right what is above his cheek,
And kiss from his cheeks what is in his right hand.
And kiss from his left what is in his right hand.
