للهِGod be praised for حَسَّانٌHassan فتىًa young man مٌعْرِقاًdeeply rooted
للهِ حَسَّانٌ فتىً مٌعْرِقاً
فيin حِذْقِهhis skill وابنُand son of فتىًa young man مُعْرِقِof deep-rooted stock
في حِذْقِه وابنُ فتىً مُعْرِقِ
God be praised for Hassan, a young man deeply rooted
in his skill, and son of a young man of deep-rooted stock.
يَفتُكُhe strikes lethally بالمَرْءِat the man شفَيقاًcompassionate بهtoward him
يَفتُكُ بالمَرْءِ شفَيقاً به
أَعجبْmarvel بهat him منas a فاتكٍslayer مُشْفِقِcompassionate
أَعجبْ به من فاتكٍ مُشْفِقِ
He strikes at a man, yet feels compassion for him.
Marvel at him—a compassionate slayer!
لهُhe has حُسامٌa keen sword مُطلَقٌunleashed حَدَّهits edge
لهُ حُسامٌ مُطلَقٌ حَدَّه
يَدْمىit draws blood وطَوْراًand at times ليسَis not بالمُطلَقِunleashed
يَدْمى وطَوْراً ليسَ بالمُطلَقِ
He has a keen sword whose edge is unleashed;
it draws blood, and at times is not unleashed.
إذاwhen كساhe clothes الوجهَthe face بهwith it رَونَقاًradiance
إذا كسا الوجهَ به رَونَقاً
عادَit returns إلىto سِنٍّa tooth لهof his ضَيِّقِnarrow
عادَ إلى سِنٍّ له ضَيِّقِ
When he clothes the face in radiance with it,
it returns to a narrow tooth of his.
