Prince of bounty, praise is immortality,
O prince of generosity, praise is immortality,
and far-ranging odes are soldiers.
And far-traveling rhymes are troops.
إذاwhen انفضَّdisperses منfrom حَولِaround الملوكِthe kings عديدُهاtheir host
فحولَكthen around you منهاof them عُدَّةٌarmament وعَديدُand a host
When their hosts scatter from around kings,
When their ranks scatter from around kings,
around you there remains of them an armed and numerous force.
Then around you they are arms and a host.
فهنَّfor they إذاwhen ناضَلْنَthey fight عنكin your defense صَوارِمٌkeen swords

When they fight in your defense, they are keen swords;
For when they fight in your defense, they are keen swords,
and when they gleam upon you, they are necklaces.
And when they gleam upon you, they are necklaces.

From the bounty of your two hands I have a token whose
And I have a vestige of your two hands' bounty: so diminished
features have dwindled until they are nearly gone.
Are its traces that they almost vanish.
غَدَاhas become خَلَقاًthreadbare والحمدُand praise فيهfor it مُجدَّدٌrenewed
ومُنْتَقَصاًand diminished والشُّكرُand gratitude فيهfor it يَزيدُincreases
It has grown worn, while praise for it is renewed,
It has grown threadbare, while praise for it is renewed,
and diminished, while gratitude for it increases.
And it has dwindled, while gratitude for it grows.
فإنْso if يَكُis رَسْميmy vestige منof نَوالِكَyour bounty دارساًeffaced
فرسمُكَthen your imprint غَضٌّfresh منthrough ثَنايَmy praise جَديدُnew
So if my token of your largesse is effaced,
So if my vestige of your bounty is effaced,
then your image, through my praise, is fresh and new.
Then your imprint, through my praise, is fresh and new.
