ومُستَديرand a round thing بلاwithout قُطْبٍan axle يَدورُit turns بهِaround it
ومُستَدير بلا قُطْبٍ يَدورُ بهِ
ولاnor لهit has وَتَدٌa peg فيin الأرضِthe earth مَركوزُdriven in
ولا له وَتَدٌ في الأرضِ مَركوزُ
And a round thing, with no pole upon which it turns,
And a round thing with no axle about which to turn,
Nor has it any stake driven into the earth;
Nor has it a peg driven into the earth.
كأنَّهas though it were فَلَكٌa celestial sphere تَنقَضُّplunge down أنجُمُهُits stars
كأنَّه فَلَكٌ تَنقَضُّ أنجُمُهُ
إذاwhenever تصوَّبَtilted downward منamong كِيزانِهِits cups كُوزُa cup
إذا تصوَّبَ من كِيزانِهِ كُوزُ
As though it were a firmament whose stars shoot down
As though it were a celestial sphere whose stars plunge down,
Whenever one cup among its cups is moved.
Whenever one cup among its cups tilts downward.
