أبا حَسَنٍ إنَّ وجهَ الرَّبيعِ

أبا حَسَنٍ إنَّ وجهَ الرَّبيعِ

جميلٌ يُزانُ بحُسْنِ العُقارِ

جميلٌ يُزانُ بحُسْنِ العُقارِ

O Abu Hasan, indeed the face of spring

Abu Hasan, verily the face of spring

is beautiful, adorned with the beauty of wine.

Is beautiful, equal to the beauty of chamomile

فإنَّ الربيعَ نهارُ السُّرو

فإنَّ الربيعَ نهارُ السُّرو

رِ والرَّاحُ شمسٌ لذاك النَّهارِ

رِ والرَّاحُ شمسٌ لذاك النَّهارِ

For spring is the day of joy,

For spring is the daytime of the cypress

and wine is the sun of that day.

And the breeze is the sun of that day

وإنك مَشرِقُها إن أردتَ

وإنك مَشرِقُها إن أردتَ

وإن لم تُرِد غَرَبتْ في استتارِ

وإن لم تُرِد غَرَبتْ في استتارِ

And you are where it rises, if you wish;

You are its sunrise, if you so wish

and if you do not wish, it sets in concealment.

And if not, it will set in concealment

فأجْرِ إليَّ بجارِ العُقارِ

فأجْرِ إليَّ بجارِ العُقارِ

فمن فَيْضِ كفَّيْكَ فيضُ الجِرارِ

فمن فَيْضِ كفَّيْكَ فيضُ الجِرارِ

So let a stream of wine flow to me;

So bring to me with the neighbor of chamomile

for the jars’ overflow comes from the bounty of your hands.

For from the outpouring of your palm is the outpouring of ewers

فقد عَبَّأَ الهَمُّ لي جَيْشَه

فقد عَبَّأَ الهَمُّ لي جَيْشَه

وليسَ له غيرُ جيشِ الخُمارِ

وليسَ له غيرُ جيشِ الخُمارِ

For sorrow has mustered its army against me,

Worry has readied its army against me

and only the army of the hangover stands against it.

And it has no other army but the army of wine
