فإليه يُنسَبُ كلُّ حُسْنٍ يُوصَفُ
A moon, unrivaled in all his charms;
A moon that encompasses all beauties
so every beauty described is ascribed to him.
So every described beauty is attributed to it

For his brow is dawn, and his forelock darkness;
Its forehead is the dawn and its profile is the night
and his figure is a supple, slender branch.
Its figure is a fresh, aromatic branch

God be praised for that face! How there have come together
What a face, by God! How wonderfully composed
within it marvels that never came together before:
Of marvels never before composed

a rose that modesty dyes safflower-red, and a narcissus
A rose tinted by shyness and a narcissus
that lowers its gaze when reproach grows long, and is made to blink.
That frowns when blame goes on for too long
